چکیده
Results Of the 132 cases referred for CT brain, 109 had a GCS score of less than 13 on initial evaluation. Among 109 cases with MHI, 90 were males and 64 (58.7%) were in the age group of 14-44 years. 78 cases were Road Traffic Accident victims, 17 were assaulted and 14 had history of fall. Twenty six (23.9%) had abnormal CT findings. Skull fracture was the commonest finding (19,17.4%), followed by contusion (4, 3.7%) and haemorrhage (EDH/SDH/ICH) (3, 2.8%). The logistic regression analysis showed that Loss of Consciousness (LOC) or amnesia (p =0.045) and female sex (p =0.048) were associated with abnormal CT findings.

Computed Tomography Profile and its Utilization in Head Injury Patients in Emergency Department: A Prospective Observational Study
Context Based on Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS), head injury can be classified as minor (GCS 13-15), moderate (GCS 9-12), and severe (GCS 3-8). There is a lot of controversy in the use of computed tomography (CT) in head injury patients. Aims This study was intended to estimate the rate of CT positivity in head injury patients and to define the criteria for doing CT in head injury patients. Setti...
متن کاملPrediction of Clinically Important Traumatic Brain Injury in Pediatric Minor Head Trauma; proposing Pediatric Traumatic Brain Injury (PTBI) Prognostic Rule
Background: The present study assesses independent predictors of clinically important traumatic brain injury (ciTBI) in order to design a prognostic rule for identification of high risk children with mild head injury. Materials and Methods: In a retrospective cross-sectional study, 3,199 children with mild traumatic brain injury (TBI) brought to emergency ward of three hospitals in Tehran, Iran...
متن کاملThe effect of observation on cranial computed tomography utilization for children after blunt head trauma.
OBJECTIVE Children with minor blunt head trauma often are observed in the emergency department before a decision is made regarding computed tomography use. We studied the impact of this clinical strategy on computed tomography use and outcomes. METHODS We performed a subanalysis of a prospective multicenter observational study of children with minor blunt head trauma. Clinicians completed cas...

BACKGROUND Optimal management of patients with mild head injury in the emergency department is still under debate. The objective of this study was to determine the diagnostic efficacy of computed tomography in patients with minor head injury. METHODS A cross-sectional comparative study was conducted in the Radiology department of PIMS, Islamabad in collaboration with neurosurgery department f...
متن کاملComparison of the Canadian CT Head Rule and the New Orleans Criteria in Patients With Minor Head Injury
EACH YEAR, PHYSICIANS IN CANAdian and US emergency departments (EDs) treat more than 8 million patients with head injury, representing approximately 6.7% of the 120 million total ED visits. Although some of these patients have sustained moderate or severe head injury leading to death or serious morbidity, the vast majority of patients are classified as having minimal or minor head injury. Patie...
متن کاملDelayed life-threatening subdural hematoma after minor head injury in a patient with severe coagulopathy: a case report
Minor head injury is a frequent cause for neurologic consultation and imaging. Most patients with minor head injury will make an uneventful recovery, but in a very small proportion of these patients life threatening intracranial complications occur. We describe a patient on oral anticoagulation therapy, and severely impaired coagulation, with normal head computed tomography on admission, who de...
